A straightforward first-month plan, a short packing list and a clear view of which gym purchases can wait.

Your first month: repeat the basics.

Start with two or three manageable sessions per week. Choose movements you can perform with control, learn how each machine or exercise is set up, and record what you did. Your first goal is to return next week, not to exhaust yourself on day one.

What to take to the gym.

  • Comfortable clothes and shoes suited to the session.
  • Water in a bottle you already own.
  • A towel or lock if your gym requires one.
  • Your session plan on your phone or in a notebook.

Check the gym’s rules before buying anything. A spare bag, shaker and lifting straps are optional.

A simple full-body session.

  1. Warm up with easy movement for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Choose a squat or leg press, a chest press and a row or pulldown.
  3. Add a hip hinge or leg curl and a simple core movement if you have time.
  4. Use a manageable effort; keep technique controlled and note your repetitions.

Rest as needed. Start with fewer sets when work or study has already taken a lot out of you. Ask a qualified trainer for help with equipment you do not know.

What can wait.

You do not need supplements, a matching outfit, a complicated split or a bag full of accessories to start. Revisit gear after several weeks, when you know what would improve your actual routine. If a purchase helps, compare fit, care, durability and return terms instead of chasing a headline discount.
